Prattville CityFest

Prattville's CityFest is the city's opportunity to showcase their city. Many of the shopkeepers set up booths where you can buy everything you need for your country home. It was quite hot that day, I'm going to have to get use to the heat of an Alabama summer again. The only ones having a harder time were the poor puppies under the humane society tent. It was even hot enough for the dude in the pig suit to change out of his feet. It must have been tough for all the mascots, but it was a clear and pretty and the churches who set up tents were smart and merciful enough to hand out bottles of water. There were many local vendors, but not as many artists as I would like to see. In the old house of the Creative Arts Center there were a few art pieces to look and and buy. There was a silent auction and a people's choice award all could vote for. My favorite artist of the day was Barney Headrick who draws in pen and ink. His compositions were simple and true representations of architectural treasures of Prattville and his wife's hometown in Georgia. My other favorite vendor was the Maple Man. He will sell you a sapling for $15, which is hard to come by otherwise. The trees are beautiful, but grow slowly, so they are usually quite expensive. He sells at Pepper Place in Birmingham as well, so I'll be seeing him again.
They also have live music, hold a 5k Fun Run and a Lucky Duck Race, check out http://www.prattvillecityfest.com/ for coming details
Details: the next CityFest is Apr 30-May 1, 2010. Friday opening ceremonies begin at 7pm and admission is free. Saturday gates are open from 9am-7pm, admission is $2 per person, $1 with Military ID. Children 5 & under get in free.
I found Prattville to be a very pretty city with loads of history that I need to go back and explore more extensively.
